Coach The Coaches

A course for experienced improvisers to learn how to effectively coach improv in various settings.

When: 10am - 4pm Saturday 18th January, Saturday 25th January, Saturday 1st February and Saturday 15th February

The course includes four full day practical and theory sessions plus class observation and supervised teaching at Blanche Improv arranged on an individual basis.

What to expect from the course: Learn the skills to effectively coach improv in class and rehearsal settings:

  • Understanding improv students

  • Understanding the role of an improv coach

  • Setting and upholding boundaries and expectations between a coach and their students

  • Effective communication appropriate for various improv learning contexts

  • Understanding different learning styles and teaching methods

  • Running exercises

  • Side coaching

  • Running a feedback session after a scene

  • Lesson planning

  • Teaching admin

  • Develop your own teaching style

At the end of the course, it is expected that students are able to plan and run an improv class or rehearsal that fulfills a specific learning outcome.

There will be a maximum of 8 participants in this course.

Blanche asks everyone in the Blanche Improv community to follow her Code of Conduct and students are required to abide by the Student Agreement.

Who is this course best suited to: This course is for experienced improvisers who want to share their love of improv with other people. It is expected that participants have a strong understanding of improv theory and experience as a member of an improv team. The course is focused on developing the skills required to share improv knowledge. Very little time is dedicated to improv theory as it’s expected that participants already understand improv techniques and know plenty of exercises. Blanche reserves the right to decline enrolment in the course if these prerequisites have not been met. Coach the Coaches will be offered three times through the year- January, in July as an intensive (all those dates and details are here) and in September.
